Steven Sands, Director
Mr. Sands has served as Co-Chairman of OptMed, Inc.’s Board of Directors since February 2011. Mr. Sands has more than thirty years of investment experience in areas that include investment banking, venture capitalism, real estate, money management, securities brokerage and merchant banking.
Mr. Sands had a long career on Wall Street working for various investment banking firms including, but not limited to, L.F. Rothschild, Oppenheimer & Company, Laidlaw, Adams & Peck and Rodman & Renshaw, before he eventually founded Sands Brothers & Co., Ltd., a boutique investment banking firm. He is currently a senior portfolio manager with SBAM. He is also a founder and manager of the Select Access Funds, Chairman of Critical Capital Growth Fund—which is licensed with the United States Small Business Administration—a manager of certain venture capital funds and special purpose entities, and is the former Chairman of Olympic Cascade Financial Corporation.
Mr. Sands has spent the past twelve years focused on both private equity and real estate. During his career, Mr. Sands has arranged and participated in the financing for a variety of biotechnology, life sciences, and healthcare companies. In addition to acting as a Director of OptMed, Inc., Mr. Sands serves as a Director of Gourmet Express, LLC and as The Co-Chairman of Viactiv Holdings, LLC.
Mr. Sands earned a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College. Mr. Sands has served as a trustee of the Friends School in Locust Valley, NY for many years and is active in other charitable and scholastic endeavors. He lives in Locust Valley, New York with his wife. He has three children.
